I was extremely fortunate to have been introduced to Lydia when I was starting to look at musical theatre/ acting as a career option. Lydia has an incredible way of making you feel safe and encouraging you to find your own voice whilst pushing you out of your comfort zone. Lydia guided me through the entire process of looking and auditioning for colleges helping me realize that I I didn’t have to sound like anyone else in order to be “good enough” for the industry and all the while helping me to unlock parts of my voice that I didn’t even know were accessible to me. I’m truly thankful for her personal touch and her pastoral way of looking after her students in such a caring and passionate manner.

Lydia is such a fantastic teacher. From legit pre 1960’s classical music to contemporary music, Lydia provides such useful techniques in order to use the voice safely in any style. As a teacher myself she also helped me develop my methods when teaching my own students.

Emma has just finished playing Heather Chandler in Heathers at The Other Palace

Lydia is more than just a singing teacher. She understands the physical and emotional challenges of the performing industry and teaches with empathy, precision and passion. Having been my teacher for 3 years she has become a friend who is always willing to go the extra mile to help me reach my fullest potential. She is also extremely helpful in rehabilitating you back to full vocal health should you have suffered trauma.

My journey to booking my first West End job took the best part of 7 years. For each audition round, year after year I would see Lydia to work on the material. She not only gave me the practical skills to accurately sing a score I thought was far above my ability, her unwavering faith in me kept me going! Lydia had always said that she wouldn’t go to see the show until I was in it - her confidence in me was that strong. I’m delighted to say her patience finally paid off! Having her in the audience for my first performance in the role was an incredibly special moment. Everyone needs a mentor like Lydia in their life, I feel so lucky to have her in mine.

Lily is currently understudying the role of Carlotta in Phantom of the Opera

After having surgery on my vocal cords, I started seeing Lydia as part of my rehabilitation process, it is the best decision I have ever made. She instantly made me feel at ease and was incredibly caring. My confidence and strength in my voice began to improve with every session. I cannot recommend Lydia’s vocal coaching and vocal rehabilitation sessions enough. I definitely wouldn’t be where I am vocally without them.

Hannah is part of the team at Edinburgh Voice Care and is a vocal coach herself.
